What Do You Know About Basic Plastic Surgery Costs And The Hidden Costs?

Defined Tag:

If you are considering plastic surgery, it is essential that you understand the basic plastic surgery costs for the specific procedure that you are interested in. Your financial obligations will depend on the procedure planned, your geographic region, your surgeon’s fees, and where the procedure will be performed. All basic plastic surgery costs and secondary costs should be clearly defined to you in the process of informed consent. To help you understand the basic plastic surgery costs better, you will be given a specific breakdown of the cost of any procedure based on surgeon’s fees, surgical facility fees, the fees for anesthesia, and fees for special medical devices (such as special post-surgical garments). You may also need to pay for preoperative lab work, although lab work may be covered by your plastic surgery insurance.

Most physicians include the cost of follow-up visits in the surgical fees. However, you should still ask specifically if these visits are included. If you choose to recover in a special postoperative recovery facility, the cost of this, too, should be specifically itemized. This includes everything from your room and board to basic care, amenities, and added services that make your stay more comfortable. These services are your choice, and you have the right to know upfront what these costs will be.

In addition, there should be no hidden costs to plastic surgery. All costs, including an estimate of anesthesia fees, should be defined prior to surgery. However, anesthesia fees are often based on time in the operating room and sometimes in the recovery room. These times cannot be precisely determined before the actual procedure. These are not unexpected, but must be an estimated cost. There may be, however, unexpected costs.

Similarly, just like any medical treatment, the outcomes of plastic surgery are not always predictable. Secondary procedures may be necessary to better achieve your desired outcomes. These are not hidden costs. Accepting the cost of any secondary procedure, one that is not reconstructive in nature, is part of the risk you take in choosing to undergo any elective medical treatment.

In the event of a complication related to your plastic surgery that requires emergency treatment, you may be responsible for the cost of that care as it is usually not included in the basic plastic surgery costs. Postoperative emergencies requiring surgery or hospitalization are not likely. However, the potential for serious complications or secondary procedures should be discussed during the informed consent process.  Hence, a comprehensive knowledge of the basic plastic surgery costs is necessary to prevent being overcharged by the clinic and protect your own interests.

Am I good for my age? This question goes right to the heart of the modern midlifer’s identity crisis — because the answer has to be, erm: that depends on where you are standing (and who’s next to you). If you are at a ladies’ keep-fit class in Skegness, that’s one thing.
